Magic Dates

The word 'magic' does not do this dish justice. These chocolate covered, almond butter filled, dates are unreal in their perfection, simplicity, and deliciousness. Super easy to make, vegan, and gluten free, you'll have no excuse not to try these little bites of sorcery.




Prep time: 10 minutes


Cook time: 5 minutes


Serves: 10






  • 10 Medjool Dates

  • 2 tbsp almond butter

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg

  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

  • 2 oz. good dark chocolate (about 2/3 of a normal size chocolate bar)

  • Course sea salt






  • Remove the pit from all dates by slicing off the stem and then slicing down the pit long ways

  • In a bowl, combine 2 tbsp almond butter with 1/4 tsp cinnamon, and 1/8 tsp each of nutmeg and cayenne

  • Using a butter knife or small spoon, fill the center of each date with almond butter mixture

  • Place about 2 cups of water into a medium sauce pan on high heat. Place a glass or metal bowl on top of the sauce pan to create a double boiler.

  • Break up and add 2 oz. of dark chocolate and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.

  • Roll dates in melted chocolate until covered, then remove and place on wax paper.

  • Sprinkle dates with course sea salt.

  • Place in fridge and let cool until hardened (30 minutes to 1 hour)
